  • A Shovel, A Backhoe and an Earthmover; The History of Network Marketing

There are three analogies I’d like to use in reference to how folks built, are building and will build their network marketing businesses. The shovel, the backhoe and the earthmover are what I will use as an paradigm to illustrate my point.

I initially started in the industry with Amway, a company that goes way back to the 1960’s. Tremendous company with great values and I learned a whole lot about this industry as an Amway distributer. Back then, people used the equivalent of a shovel to build their business. They met in living rooms and dens in homes across America to build their Internet Marketing businesses.

For nearly three decades folks grew their business through warm lists and just talking with people. There was no three way calling, no cell phones. no personal computers. That was networking in it’s most primative form, aside from the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Towards the early 199o’s people still used a shovel, but others moved to a backhoe. The internet had reached homes across America and a very small group of marketers were able to network online through email’s and such. Networkers got together in hotel’s rather than living rooms and dens. Hotels offered more space for more people and gave prospects a more professional image of the company that was represented. This worked for some, but for others it offered little credibility.

Don’t get me wrong. Fortunes were made over the years in network marketing, however there was a very high failure rate. If you took the total number of people in Network marketing and the number of people making a full time living at it, the numbers were less than 1/100th of 1%. Not very good odds.

Fast Forward to the year 2009 and we use the equivalent of an Earth Mover. Serious Network Marketers today build their business online using state of the art tools like Auto-Responders, Funded Proposal Sales Funnel’s, Affilate Joint Venture Partners, Social Media, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Videos, Podcasts, Email Marketing, Pay-Per Click Advertising, etc.

We no longer have to sell people on our products or services as our systems do the sifting, sorting and selling for us. We develop relationships with people online by providing them value. We give them the best of what we know for free to earn their trust. We use the auto-responders to keep in touch with our prospects over the course of time and give them the information they are looking for.

When I look back at the days I used to sit in Starbucks for hours upon hours showing the business plan to prospects that I had cold contacted, I almost have to laugh. I dragged people to hotel meetings who didnt want to be there, tried convincing people that if they didn’t get started in business with me, they were going to be broke for the rest of their lives. Those silly, outdated methods didn’t work so well

It Doesnt matter what business your building, the rules are the same. Use systems to build your fortune. The days of doing list builders, cold contacting, hotel meetings, etc. are over. Sure there are companies that will continue to do business this way, however a VERY small percentage of people will have any kind of success in their Network Marketing business.

    Respectfully Yours,

    Josh Boxer

  • Mijas Hot Tubs – History

The Hot Tub industry would not have started but for the input from Roy Jacuzzi and his family and as an insight here is an extract from a Jacuzzi press release dealing with the History of the Jacuzzi Brand.

According to a Jacuzzi, Inc press release “The History of the Jacuzzi Brand”: …begins in the early 1900s, when the seven Jacuzzi brothers immigrated to California from Italy.

The brothers made great strides in aviation by inventing the first enclosed cabin monoplane, which carried mail for the U.S. Postal Service as well as passengers from the San Francisco Bay Area to Yosemite National Park in California.

Incorporating their hydraulic insight, Jacuzzi Brothers, as they’d come to be known in 1920, later made notable advancements in the agricultural pump industry, which led to an invention that remains an iconic fixture in American homes today.

Since then there have been many further developments and one example would be that the Jets designs have increased very considerably.

There is no doubt in my mind that that back in time just over half a century ago (1954) when the Jacuzzi brothers Invented a portable whirlpool pump (simply as I understand it because one of their relatives had arthritis) that they would not have had an inkling that this would go on to form such a large and developing industry.

Hot Tubs are now being made in most western countries to the highest standards and the development of the product continues at a pace. The original Jacuzzi pump, when coupled with jets using an air-injection system, a mixture very similar to a kind of bubbly water-and-air was created. With the natural passing of time, a variety of American manufacturers experimented with methods to propel the air/water stream into the spa with ever increasing digress of pressure and control. Initially spas used a simple idea that involved something like a vacuum cleaner motor but operating as a blower in some ways similar to blowing air into the hot tub in exactly the same way that we as children would have used a straw to blow bubbles in to a glass of lemonade or coca cola.

Again as time passed the designers soon began thinking of things like the venturi principle, in which water is pumped through a funnel-like device to create a vacuum that pulls in air. As the water flow and pressure begins to increase, the jet automatically sucks in more air, which results in a greatly increased water flow and movement not unlike the idea of an exhaust driven turbo charger in a car.

Many Hot Tubs have the ability to bleed air into so that one is able to inject air into the Jets thereby increasing the pressure and movement of the water. Not unlike perhaps a turbo charger on a car.

The pioneering spirit of the original Jacuzzi brothers was alive and well in third generation family member Roy Jacuzzi, who invented the world’s first whirlpool bath in 1968. As a teenager, he started working in the family business in a variety of odd jobs, really learning how the business worked from the ground up. In 1968, his passion for design and engineering emerged when he invented and marketed the world’s first fully integrated whirlpool bath, known as the Roman. Sensing that American consumers were moving toward an emphasis on health, fitness and leisure activities, the determined Jacuzzi peddled his invention one at a time at county fairs and trade shows in California.

At the same time his family members looked on with both surprise and delight, Roy slowly and more or less on his own created a brand new industry.

Quoting the chairman and president of Jacuzzi Inc Roy Jacuzzi. of California, United States of America, Roy said “A venturi system is a conventional approach,” “What I did was take air and water all around that so I was getting a 300/60 air-to-water mixture. “I was actually taking the water and air combination … and exploding that,” he added.

The earliest spas, though, incorporated only enough jets to churn the water.

Quoting another Spa manufacturer Bernie Burba, founder of Baja Products Inc in Tucson, Arizona said “When we first came out with spas, they had two spa jets on them, “Now you see portable spas with 60 on them. You might say that’s overkill, but it isn’t,” he said. “We have really learned a lot about water therapy and that lots of jets – together with plenty of warm water and air moving across your body – is a very satisfying, restful and helpful experience.”

Today, the jets of a Hot tub provide pulsating and soothing massage action all over the body, from stiff necks to sore feet. Hot Tub & Jacuzzi style Spa manufacturers now offer various specific jets and massage systems to help massage the neck and shoulders, arms, wrists, hips and thighs, the knees, calves and feet etc.

Apart from the original idea of being able to mix warm water and air to create the Spa effect there is no part of a Hot Tub that has not had considerable improvements and amendments made to the technology and indeed the construction and manufacturing processes used in making a Hot Tub.

Whole industries have been spawned producing the components and raw materials that Hot Tub manufactures require. The Acrylic Sheets that form the Shell the electronic controls the pumps and motors. Each and every American Hot Tub manufacturer has tried to be at the cutting edge when introducing new ideas.

To summarize it pays to buy a product from a leading American or Western manufacturer as clearly they have been at the forefront of developments in this industry for more thsn 40 year and not a cheap import from China no matter how well it is disguised or packaged.

  • The History of Network Marketing and The History of MLM

What day did Dinosaurs first roam this world? Which was the first type of Dinosaur? We are not exactly sure, though MLM is not nearly as old, the exact date or type is also still unclear. MLM evolved over a number of years, the marketing system was in development prior to World War II. As we all know, MLM is still evolving and maturing everyday.

Though there is word on the internet that “Wachters” was the first company, most people think and agree that Nutrilite, “The California Vitamin Company” was the first true MLM company. Not that it necessarily started as an MLM company, but the type of compensation plan that it later evolved into was much like a multi-level commission payment generated plan.

In addition to being crowned with the founders of a network marketing payment plan, they were also the founders of the Vitamin and Food Supplements industry, way back in the 1920s. Two of the more successfully representatives of Nutrilite was Rich DeVos and Jay van Andel. In the ensuing decade, they built a large, prosperous organization across America.

After the company saw how much money the marketing arm was making they quickly tried to change things around to dwarf commissions, and in light of that, Rich DeVos and Jay van Andel decided to take the situation in a new direction.

In 1959 Rich DeVos and Jay van Andel, formed the birth of a company called The American Way – Amway for short. In the following decades, Amway Corporation successfully established itself as a leading multilevel marketing business, built on strong values and founding principles that continue to sustain their company today.

Perhaps you have you heard of Amway. ;)

Here DeVos and Andel brought with them the multi-level marketing plan which had before been so successful.

Soon there after the Amway Corporation took on the might of the Federal Trade Commission in a test case which took the brakes off the development of the ‘network marketing industry’.

In brief, the decision in this case was that Amway was NOT a pyramid scam, but a legitimate form of doing and offering business.

This ruling opened the flood gates and there were very many companies set up to operate in this way in short order.

Amway continued to rule the industry, and within ten years, they had bought Nutrilite, and Amway has rarely looked back ever since.

Of course, this kind of success attracts a lot of attention and, before long there was also a dark side to the MLM story, one that still causes problems to this day.

The smart company owners soon realized that they couldn’t take advantage of people under the strict, ethical rules of conduct required by the MLM companies, also that doing so would weaken the integrity of the industry. Others came up with a counterfeit version, based on a scam from the late 1920s (The Ponzi Scheme) that looked like MLM.

Thus RE-VAMPED was the Pyramid Selling Scheme.

In the 1960s and 1970s, pyramid schemes proliferated, whereby a ‘product’ was attached to a money pyramid, in order to pretend that they were actually marketing SOMETHING!

It’s ironic that people still mistakenly accuse MLM of being pyramid selling when it was actually the reputable MLM companies that first petitioned government authorities to have pyramid selling outlawed.

This type of business is nowadays regulated and there is a great deal of consumer protection. However, the world is full of dubious characters and there are new scams being made to look like legitimate companies all the time. Keep your eyes open and always do your own due diligence before jumping into any opportunity, it is your life and your time, take responsibility. By trusting members of the DSA, MLMIA, and MLM DRA you won’t go far wrong, but watch out for start-ups which may fail, taking all your hard work with them.

Over the following decades, and continually in to the future MLM is evolving and further developing into a wide array of companies, product ranges, and reward plans. This somewhat unique, and powerful system continues to grow companies and people everyday.

In today’s modern world, the network marketing industry has grown up. Many of the great leaders of the industry have developed some very sophisticated tools to support the back end infrastructure of managing large world-wide networks. New and easy to use prospecting tools have sprouted up that are proven to work for anyone willing to go through the learning and personal development growth curve.

Web 2.0 is not just a buzz word. Social networks, blogs, pod-casts, and online discussion boards are an excellent free resource to promote your business. John Milton Fogg, author of The Greatest Networker in the World calls it “Internetwork Marketing”. You now have great power at your finger tips. More than ever before you have an opportunity to maximize and multiply the power of 6 degrees of separation.

The network marketing industry still continues to face challenges, as all developing industries do. However, the foundation has been laid for the next 50 years to be prosperous, revolutionary to the world of product distribution, and personal success in all areas of life for those who are part of the growth of successful companies.

  • Will Trump Make MLM Network History?

    The Trump MLM Network
If you have read the articles and reports of Donald Trump’s huge entry into the network marketing industry lately then you have possibly understood this isn’t something that occurred overnight nor is it something the Trump Empire is just’exploring’. Trump has decided to jump in feet first and take a major stake in the MLM industry. It’s not uncommon information that Trump has always supported the industry and on a TV appearance when asked what he would do if he were to become utterly broke overnite he answered, without delay, he would find a great MLM company and put all his energy into building a massive residual earnings.
In the past he’s gone so far as to publicly sponsor a particular company that may contribute the majority of its success to his support. In truth they paid him more than $1 million for the endorsement. But he wasn’t concerned in the possession structure or in the daily management. This all modified recently when Donald Trump announced the prelaunch of his own MLM deal, The Trump Network

Trump had these plans a while back but was just trying to find the right moment and chance to make his move. This company had everything in place to give Trump the quick start he was looking for. A stable idea directed mainly at the Boomer generation, a respected and experienced management team with unique tested products.

So now Trump has taken step one, what is he planning to do? Well, sifting thru the media noise and some of the tricking claims about television appearances on the major networks and programs like Larry King and Oprah, none of which have been officially confirmed by the company, some of the facts announced officially obviously point to Trump staking a claim to a major market share in the sector.

Trump is not just going to market the products he has just acquired with Ideal Health. It would appear the company is going after major segments of the MLM industry and some industry pundits are now exclaiming in the future there’ll be only two types of players in internet marketing – The Trump Network and all those that compete against them!
The fact is that many MLM heavy hitters have been secretly joining the company even before its current prelaunch phase taking with them thousands of supporters. Their impact has already been felt as the company, based on their advice, recently reconditioned the compensation plan to make it more recruiting friendly. This plan is now arguably one of the most competitive in the sector, providing great revenue opportunities both at the front end as well as in great depth on product sales.
Trump would permit his own billion-dollar brand to be related to something unless it is successful. It’d be too much of a risk. We are able to presume he did some extensive due diligence before doing anything. Why would they assert that if it were not true? And judging by the expansion just in the prelaunch stage it seems this goal isn’t overstated. So this raises an important thought – when should you get involved?

We all know the massive earners in any company are those that get in right at the start. The official launch in November guarantees to be an amazing event with Donald Trump as the host and an expected 25,000 attendees from The Trump MLMNetwork it could mark the beginning of history in the making in the internet promotion industry.

  • A Brief History of the Hot Rod

California is considered to be the birthplace of hot rods. People were looking for cars to race across the salt flats, and many amateur mechanics looked to create streamlined vehicles for racing. They used whatever parts they could find in local junkyards. The idea was that they could build a better racer than their more affluent neighbors with sheer ingenuity.

It was important that the cars could be used both for racing and everyday driving, since very few people had more than one car. Early hot rods were created from Ford Model T and Model A roadsters. Actually, the term “hot rod” is believed to be derived from the phrase “hot roadster.” Model Ts and As were plentiful, cheap and easy to modify for racing. The absence of a top made these cars lighter than most, though sedans and coupes were soon used for racing. These would often be prepared for racing by removing the tops and giving the windshield a backwards slope to make them lighter and more aerodynamic.

The tires were usually replaced, with very large rear tires to raise the gear ratio. Small front tires were used in combination with the large rear tires in order to “rake,” or slope, the car forward. This further decreased wind resistance. Slots were cut into the body of the car to help keep the engine cool. These backyard enthusiasts made every effort to create the fastest car in the region.

After WWII, the American public became enthralled with hot rods. Many early enthusiasts came back from military service with mechanical and metalworking skills, and they were ready to put those skills into their cars. They gathered once again in southern California’s dry region and continued customizing cars and racing.

As street racing rose in popularity, so did the dangers associated with it. All across the country, kids were racing their hot rods, sometimes with fatal consequences. From cruising the streets at night to gathering at local hot spots, the youth of America became obsessed with street racing. Eventually, the American public at large looked upon hot rodding as a dangerous and delinquent pastime which, along with rock and roll, was rotting the youth of the country.

To offset this perception, the first Hot Rod Exhibition was held in Los Angeles in 1948. The exhibition emphasized the positive aspects of hot rods, such as craftsmanship and ingenuity. Hot rod associations were formed in order to develop cooperation between enthusiasts and the police, giving the entire subculture a better image in the public eye.

Many people shifted the focus from creating a racing car to creating a unique and beautiful vehicle. Custom paint jobs became all the rage, while the slope of the car changed. While early builders leaned the car forward, people started to slope the cars toward the rear. The cars were built for looks rather than racing, though their engines and performance were still held in high regard.

Hot rods are still highly popular vehicles, among both younger and older generations. Their size, appearance and performance appeal to many. Amateur mechanics still park them in their garage to tear them apart, soup them up and take them to the streets. Just like in the old days, it’s about creating a better car with a little money and a lot of determination.
